Summary

The villagers of an unknown town gather together for the annual lottery. Mr. Summers runs the lottery and has a lot to do before the event happens. There is a list of all the families and households in the town. Each head of the families draws a slip of paper from the black box on the front stage. After everyone draws a slip of paper, they have to open the paper. Bill Hutchinson has got it so his family has to draw again. After they all draw, it is revealed that Tessie Hutchinson has drawn the paper with the black dot on it and has “won” the lottery. She tries to defend herself and her family, but still has rocks thrown at her by the other villagers.
